"Greatest
Hits"
Whitesnake & David Coverdale have been rocking my world since 1987.
I have been listening to great songs of theirs ever since and am really
enjoying the stuff I missed as a young teen. Greatest Hits is the kind of
album that gives even the beginner Whitesnake/Coverdale fan a taste of the
pinnacle of their music career. Songs like "Here I Go Again" and
"Still of the Night" really fill me with energy and memories of
my past. I remember the first time I saw Whitesnake’s "Here I Go
Again" video on MTV. I was at my mom’s house, grabbed my husband by
the arm and said "Who does that look like?!" He and I both sat
glued to the TV through the entire video, with jaws dropped. At the time,
we had a friend (from my college days) that looked just like David, and it
was really uncanny how much they looked alike.

daughter Jayme)
From that point forward, I was hooked on Whitesnake
& David! I think I bought everything I could find that was Whitesnake…posters,
cassettes (showing my age), t-shirts, etc. In 1987, Whitesnake’s tour
came to Jackson, Mississippi (where I’m from) and we bought tickets the
day they went on sale. It sold out really quick, from what I remember, and
it was packed the night of the concert. I don’t remember who opened for
them, but I do remember standing at the back of the coliseum when
Whitesnake took the stage - - I grabbed my husband by the arm &
dragging him to the front with me said, "I’m not missing
this!" We got within 30 feet of the stage and I stood there screaming
with the rest of the crowd! It was the most awesome concert I ever
remember seeing!
When I was asked to review Greatest Hits, I was
ecstatic because I was getting the chance to talk about the music I lived
with as part of my soul. David’s music went places in my mind and heart
that no other musician/group ever had. From the beginning of Greatest
Hits, Whitesnake & David take me through all the emotions - - full
rock sound from "Here I Go Again" and "Still of the
Night", to emotions of love from "Is This Love" and
"Now You’re Gone"…then of course, who can forget the sexy
side with "Slide It In" and "Slow and Easy"…and
"Judgement Day" stands alone. Greatest Hits has such a wide
range of emotions from the tone of the music to the ‘kick your ass’
lyrics. In my opinion, Greatest Hits is the best album for Whitesnake
fans. It has all the greatest of Whitesnake and extra tracks from stuff
that was never before released in the USA.
As I’m listening to this while I write my review, I
had a funny memory. I have 2 beautiful children, and when my oldest was
very young, she loved singing the chorus of "Here I Go Again".
She’s 16 now and my son is 12 - - they both love Whitesnake and David’s
music. She told me when I got my gift picture of David from another
boardmember, "momma, he’s sexy for an old guy!" I told her how
old he was and thought she would die. I showed her the new pictures and
she loves them too. So see, there’s a new generation of Coverdale fans
emerging.
Whitesnake and David’s music will always be a very
integral part of my life, and now I’m at the point of becoming familiar
with some of his earlier work. I believe that Whitesnake and David will be
a long-standing icon in the music arena for many years to come.
